2019 Africa Day Event Held in Guangdong Museum

On May 28th, Africa Day Event was held in Guangdong Museum. It was co-host by Guangdong Public Diplomacy Association, Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Guangdong Museum and IAS, GDUFS. Attending the event were Shi Zhiquan, deputy director of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs Committee, Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and secretary general of Guangdong Public Diplomacy Association, Jiang Zhengqin, director of African Division of Foreign Affairs Office, People’s Government of Guangdong Province, Zhang Guohui, director of Promotion Department of Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Wang Fang, curator assistant and director of Promotion Department, Guangdong Museum, as well as government officials from Consulate Generals of African countries in Guangzhou, such as Mali, Uganda, Nigeria, Côte d'Ivoire, Congo (Brazzaville), Angola, Zambia, Senegal, Ghana, etc. Prof. Liu Jisen host African Day Event which took “Guangdong-Africa cultural exchange” as the topic this year.

Shi Zhiquan delivered a speech.

Shi Zhiquan stated in his speech that African Day Event was aimed to enhance African countries’ understanding of Chinese culture. Maritime silk road linked China and African continent, through which China-Africa community of a shared future for mankind could be built.

Zhang Guohui delivered a speech.

As Zhang Guohui put, there were frequent cultural and tourism exchange between China and Africa. In recent years, African countries paid a regular visit to Guangdong to hold tourist roadshows and to attend China (Guangdong) International Tourism Industry EXPO (CITIE), receiving great responses. Guangdong also sent art troupes and tourism industry groups to Africa to carry out cultural and tourism exchange events. The opening of more direct flights would facilitate the exchange between the cultural tourism industry in the two places and promote more tourism visits. On behalf of Guangdong Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism , he showed willingness to work with African countries to promote more pragmatic and effective exchange and cooperation in culture and tourism, so that culture and tourism could better serve as a bridge for people-to-people exchanges, economic and trade cooperation as well as mutual learning between China and Africa.

Miss Alima Danfakha Gakou delivered a speech.

Miss Alima Danfakha Gakou, head of Consulate General of African countries in China and Mali consul general stated that since Africa’s independence, China had been making great efforts to support Africa’s unification and integration by signing agreements regarding various cooperation, infrastructure financing and sustainable development aids, which coincided with the theme of the "New Silk Road" Initiative.

Finally, Prof. Liu Jisen made an introduction of China-Africa Exchange and Cooperation Week to be held this November.
