On June 26th, 2019, bilateral symposium, whose topic was “Exploring Africa with Joint Efforts of Multi-party”, was held in 3rd Meeting Room, the South Campus of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. It was co-host by IAS, Research Center for International Economic and Trade and Foshan entrepreneurs. Attending the symposium were corporate executives from Guangzhou and Foshan, as well as researchers from IAS and Research Center for International Economic and Trade. Prof. Liu Jisen, executive president of IAS and director of Research Center for International Economic and Trade, host the symposium.
At the beginning of the symposium, Prof. Liu Jisen extended his warmest welcome to entrepreneurs and welcomed them to share ideas and suggestions.

During the symposium, Prof. Liu Jisen, on behalf of IAS, issued the appointment letter of honorary vice president of IAS to Mr. Shen Shihua, chairman of Foshan Hande Ceramics Co., Ltd. and chairman of Foshan Taobohui Ceramics Co., Ltd. Mr. Shen Shihua said that he would enhance communication between institutions and enterprises, and promote more cooperation.

Prof. Liu Jisen shared his ideas on China-Africa ten-year cooperation. He believed that Africa was a huge market with great potential based on three reasons. Firstly, in terms of resources, Africa has a demographic dividend and expansive land. Secondly, African countries are devoted to promoting African integration. Thirdly, Chinese government attaches great importance to Africa and provides abundant preferential policies. Prof. Liu Jisen held the view that enterprises shall seize the opportunity to enter African market. He also reminded entrepreneurs of “employee localization issues” and “security issues” when investing in Africa. Also, enterprises shall act in response to eight major initiatives. Besides, Prof. Liu Jisen introduced the research fields of IAS and Research Center for International Economic and Trade and highlighted that the two institutes would contribute to enterprises’ expansion in African market from the perspectives of talent cultivation, society service, international cooperation and scientific research.
Then Miss Zhou Sihan shared her investing experience in Africa, pinpointed potential problems encountered in African market, and offered feasible suggestions.
In Q&A section, entrepreneurs shared their ideas on the cooperation between institutes and enterprises.
At the end of symposium, Prof. Liu Jisen made a closing speech, hoping that more communication could be made between institutions and enterprises.
