Field Trip to Uganda

2019-03-14

On December 19th, 2018, Professor Liu Jisen, Director of Center for International Economic and Trade Studies and Executive President of IAS, GDUFS, and Dr, Zeng Yuran, Executive Director of Research Center for Global Marketing of Chinese Cultural Brand, paid a visit to Kenya, Uganda and South Africa.

On December 23rd, researchers left for Uganda. They arrived at Entebbe International Airport first, and then drove to Kampala.

As soon as researchers arrived in Uganda, they were shocked by huge contrasts. When they were at Nairobi International Airport, they couldn’t find any difference with other international airports of developed countries. However, when they arrived at Entebbe International Airport, they were shocked by its underdevelopment.

Researchers were also shocked by Ugandan climate. It’s believed that drought and water shortage are common in African countries, however, it’s not the case. Uganda has plenty of rainfall, VictoriaNyanza, the world's second largest freshwater lake, as well as higher forest coverage than that in other African countries.

What’s more, researchers were shocked by the disparity between the rich and the poor. In Uganda, misery of the slums and luxury of the hilltop villas coexisted.

On December 23rd, researchers paid a visit to CGCOC Group and were greeted by General Manager Ji Wei. CGCOC Group was the strategic partner of IAS, GDUFS. Mr. Ji put forward suggestions on cooperation on agriculture and Chinese medicine between China and Uganda. Executive President Liu Jisen made response to Mr. Ji’s future plans.

Prof. Liu sent souvenirs to Mr. Ji.

In this visit, Prof. Liu met his son Liu Sida who worked in Uganda and hadn’t seen his father for half a year.

On December 24th, 2018, researchers visited Uganda’s market where abundant products were sold.

At lunch, Prof. Liu got a greatly large cup of juice. Maybe the juice was too much that Prof. Liu couldn’t finish it.

On December 24th, researchers paid a visit to Dongsong Energy Group and were greeted by Manager Guo Yaqiong. Manager Guo introduced the construction and operation of Dongsong industrial park which, as a benchmark of Sino-Ugandan cooperation program, integrated mineral processing, chemical fertilizer, agricultural planting, agricultural machinery repair and agricultural technology training into a whole and had great economic and social benefits.
