Seminar on“Belt & Road”Initiative in Africa

On February 12th, 2019, China’ senior business delegation arrived at University of East London to attend the seminar on “Belt & Road” Initiative in Africa.

In 2013, President Xi put forward “Belt & Road” Initiative. Rated as China’s “21st-Centurey Maritime Silk Road”, it outlines China’s investment plans in Asia, Europe and Africa.

Mr. Huang Qing’an, deputy director of the council of “Belt & Road” African Studies Alliance, doctoral supervisor of UEL and dean of International Business School of Guangdong University of Finance & Economics, delivered a keynote speech. He highlighted the significance of China’s investment to Africa’s sustainable development, elobarated China’s investment from the perspective of political policy and focused on Africa’s employment. In the meanwhile, he strongly believed that UEL, as the cradle of Africa’s leaders, would make great contributions to China-Africa cooperation.

The seminar was held by Research Center for Nation, Market and Talent, UEL. Attending the seminar were famous people in Chinese business circle, including Mr. Lu Zhanyu, chairman of UK Guangdong Business Association, Mr. Andy Tam, vice chairman of CCBUK, Mr. Qiu Fan, chairman of UK Shenzhen Business Association, Prof. Sunitha Narendran from UEL, Mr. Huang Qing’an from Guangdong University of Finance & Economics, etc.

Prof. Fouskas mentioned that UEL aimed to carry out a major program to study “Belt & Road” Initiative in Africa. The program would promote academic cooperation among young scholars and students.
