Miss Huo Jiangtao Host AGBA Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of Africa Guangdong Business Association (AGBA) was held in Nairobi, Kenya, on August 3rd. Peter Munia, Kenyan Minister of Industry, Trade and Enterprise Development, Betty Maya, the Deputy Minister, and Mr. Han Jun, President of Chinese General Chamber Of Commerce in Eastern Africa, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches. Mr. Zhu Layi, President of AGBA delivered an opening speech. Mr. Lin Tao, President of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong Committee (CCPIT), unveiled the nameplate for AGBA. Miss Huo Jiangtao, Vice President of Guangdong Chamber of International Commerce AITA and Dean Assistant of IAS, GDUFS, hosted the opening ceremony. Attending the meeting were over 100 representatives from Chinese and Kenyan government, CCPIT, as well as Kenyan Chambers of Commerce and enterprises.

In response to the Belt and Road Initiative and the Greater Bay Area Framework Agreement, to promote Guangdong's investment in Africa, and improve Africa's employment, AGBA was established with the joint efforts of Guangdong Foreign Affairs Office, CCPIT, Guangdong New South Group Co., Ltd, as well as diplomats from African countries. AGBA aims to ensure Chinese enterprises' investment and development in Africa and promote Africa's economy development.

Before the opening ceremony, government officials from African countries greeted chief members of AGBA. And they thought highly of the establishment of AGBA.

At the beginning of the opening ceremony, Mr. Zhang Jianming, Minister of CCPIT, read out the list of the president, executive vice president, vice president, secretary general and supervisor of the board of directors. Mr. Zhu Layi delivered an opening speech, in which he stated that China's experience in reform and opening would be useful to Kenya's economy development; and that China and Africa could achieve win-win results. He also mentioned that AGBA was established to promote the communication among Guangdong enterprises investing in Africa, Chinese and Kenyan government, CCPIT, as well as Chinese embassies and consulates, to serve as a platform where information, programs and resources were shared among Guangdong enterprises, to solve problems encountered by Chinese enterprises in Africa, as well as to cooperate with Chinese academic institutions, think-tanks and institutes for African studies to offer suggestions for enterprise development.

Besides, Mr. Zhu Layi mentioned that the anti-malarial drugs developed by Guangdong New South Group bailed out people who suffered from malaria. AGBA would also shoulder social responsibility in response to the idea of "to establish a community of a common destiny".

Peter Munia, Kenyan Minister of Industry, Trade and Enterprise Development, stated in his speech that the establishment of AGBA would further promote Chinese investment in manufacturing industry. He suggested that Kenyan Chambers of Commence should help young people realize their potentials, arouse their sense of competition, and improve their productivity.

Betty Maya, Kenyan Deputy Minister of Industry, showed great gratitude for China's contributions to Kenyan economy development and infrastructure construction. She mentioned that Kenya benefited a lot from the Belt and Road Initiative, and she was looking forward to further cooperation between Guangdong and Kenya. In her view, AGBA would definitely realize Kenya's potential and accelerate the transformation of its economy.

Mr. Han Jun, President of Chinese General Chamber Of Commerce in Eastern Africa, mentioned that AGBA would attract lots of enterprises to invest in Kenya, promote the development of Kenya's economy and promote China-Kenya relation.

Mr. Lin Tao, President of CCPIT, put forward three requirements for AGBA. First, it should set up mechanism adapting to international rules and better serve Chinese enterprises. Second, it should establish good relationships, home and abroad, for Chinese enterprises. Third, it should actively respond to the Belt and Road Initiative and expand its influence.

Signing Ceremony

Miss Sun Baohong, ambassador of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, attended the economic and trade fair held after the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony of the AGBA contributed to the signing of six projects concerning energy, logistics, medical care, communications, etc.

It's said that CCPIT and AGBA will organize economic and trade fairs in Kenya, South Africa and Mauritius and promote investment projects.
