On April 9th, Inaugural Meeting of China-African Institute and Seminar on China-African Cooperation and Cultural Exchange was held in Beijing. President Xi Jinping wrote a letter to extend his congratulations on the foundation of China-African Institute. Xie Fuzhan, president of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, hosted the meeting. Prof. Liu Jisen, executive president of IAS, GSUFS, attended the meeting.

Yang Jiechi, member of Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee and director of Central Foreign Affairs Office, read out President Xi’s letter. Mr. Yang stated that at 2018 Beijing summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, China and Africa decided to build China-African community with a shared future and to implement eight major initiatives. He thought that the foundation of China-African Institute was of great significance to China-African cultural exchange. Mr. Yang hoped that China-African Institute would integrate academic resources of China-Africa think tanks and make contributions to China-African further cooperation and the establishment of China-African community with a shared future.
In the letter, President Xi also pointed out that great changes were taking place now. China was the largest developing country, and Africa was the continent with the most developing countries. Two parties had been maintaining a good relationship. Further development of China-African cooperation would not only benefit people not also promote world peace and development.
Witnessing the foundation of China-African Institute were more than 350 attendees including ambassadors from 51 embassies of African countries in China, officials from African Union, representatives from 40 academic institutions, think tanks and governments, as well as major media.

Miss An Yang, member of Human Resources and Technology Committee, AU, pointed out in her speech that it was important to strengthen the strategic partnership between China and AU for the realization of 2063 Agenda. China and Africa could further develop their cooperation in scientific research. She added that it was expected that South-South Cooperation could be strengthened; and that China-African Institute could make contributions to China-African cooperation and cultural exchange.
Mr. Joaquim Alberto Chissano delivered a speech.
Mr. Joaquim Alberto Chissano, former President of Mozambique, hoped that China-African Institute would act as a platform where discussions on issues of economic and trade relation, peace and security cooperation as well as the establishment of China-African community of a shared future can be held.
It’s said that China-African Institute is aimed to provide intellectual support and talent support for strengthening academic research, promoting cultural exchange and the implementation of “Belt & Road” Initiative, developing China-Africa strategic partnership and making contributions to China-African community of a shared future.

Seminar on China-African Cooperation and Cultural Exchange was composed of four major parts whose topics were “Belt & Road” Initiative and China-African Economic and Trade Cooperation, China-African Cultural Exchange, China-African Cooperation in Security as well as Building of China-African Community of A Shared Future.

On April 10th, a closing ceremony was held. Wang Lei, director of Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, hosted the ceremony, and Cai Fang, vice president of CASS and Savanne, vice chairman of Senegalese Regional Executive High Commission delivered concluding speeches.
