On November 27, Mr. Teferi.M.Desta, consul general of Ethiopia in Guangzhou, Prof. Yu Hongjun, chief researcher in The Charhar Institute and former deputy minister of International Department, Central Committee of CPC, and Sun Xiaojun, Executive Secretary General of The Charhar Institute, made reports on the academic symposium held in San Shui Campus, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics. Huang Xiaobo, CPC Committee Secretary of Guangdong University of Finance and Economics greeted the experts. The academic symposium was hosted by Huang Qing'an, President of International Business School of Guangdong University of Finance and Economics. Attending the symposium were Mr. Lu Zhanyu, chairman of Briton Guangdong Business Association, Prof. Liu Jisen, Executive President of IAS, GDUFS, representatives from academic and industrial circles, etc.
Prof. Yu Hongjun delivered a speech which took "Situation and Task of Public Diplomacy in the New Era" as topic and analyzed international situation and challenges of public diplomacy. Prof. Yu pointed out that nowadays the world was in a period of great development, great change and great adjustment. Accordingly, President Xi stressed the necessity of breaking new ground in advancing China's major country diplomacy. Prof. Yu maintained that public diplomacy should attach great importance to the creativity in practice, and universities should play a role as think tanks so as to contribute to public diplomacy.
Mr. Teferi.M.Desta, consul general of Ethiopia in Guangzhou, took "Current Situation and Trend of Development of China-Africa Cooperation in 'Belt and Road' Initiative" as his topic. He mentioned that China and Africa had a long-standing friendship. Since May, 2017, China and Africa had established an overall strategic partnership and further developed relationship. Mr. Teferi.M.Desta thought highly of China's contributions to Africa's agricultural and industrial development. He showed that Ethiopia would cooperate with Chinese institutes and universities such as The Charhar Institute, Guangdong University of Finance and Economics, etc, under the framework of "Belt and Road" Initiative, and promoted the implementation of "Belt and Road" Initiative through cooperation and exchange with bilateral or multilateral organizations.
Mr. Sun Xiaojun took "Viewing 'Belt and Road' Initiative from Historical and Overseas Perspective" as his topic. He pointed out that based on the golden principle of achieving shared growth through discussion and collaboration, "Belt and Road" Initiative promoted the win-win situation and sustainable development.
Experts extended their best wishes to Guangdong University of Finance and Economics and the university students. Mr. Teferi.M.Desta showed that he would revisit the university and establish a good relationship with the university. Experts in The Charhar Institute showed the willingness to cooperate with Guangdong University of Finance and Economics so as to play a role as think tanks and to promote the implementation of "Belt and Road" Initiative in South China. Teachers and students showed that they were inspired by experts’ ideas, and they hoped that more academic symposiums could be held.
