Prof. Liu Jisen Attend 1st JSU Forum on China-Africa Cooperation

Dream to succeed, together we can

Usually, the first programs of every semester open the door for successive ones. The 1st programme organized by the Overseas Education College (OEC) of Jiangsu University was dubbed "Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and Discussion on the Book-Governance of China". It took place on 8th September, 2018 at JTU Auditorium 110 at 6:00pm.

Before the commencement of the program, heads of OEC, invited guests, key speakers, Country and Association representatives were ushered to the protocol seat. 

To start the event, the MCs (Chuulu and Ruwa) introduced the high table followed by telecasting of a short video highlighting the visit of his Excellency, President Xi Jinping to Africa. The video showed some of his diplomatic visit to South Africa, Tanzania and some other countries in the African continent.

As an opening remarks, the Vice Dean of OEC, Prof. Cai, welcomed everyone to the event and emphasized the importance of China-Africa cooperation and friendship. She ended her speech with the new school slogan "Dream to succeed, together we can".

To show her concern for 'children', the Dean of OEC prof. Gao Jing expressed her profound appreciation to the African students who have enormously contributed to the academic distinction of Jiangsu University. She added that, to achieve the Win-Win goal of the China-Africa cooperation, we need to be responsible people and work together to achieve our common purpose.

Next in series was the elaborative speech by Prof. Jisen Liu key speaker , Executive director for African studies, Guangdong University of foreign Studies.on China-Africa Cooperation. In his speech, he mentioned 5 main factors for promoting China Africa cooperation:

1. Overview of African countries

2. Development of China-Africa cooperation system

3. Belt and Road Initiative for Africa 

4. Features of the 2018 Beijing Summit of the forum on China- Africa cooperation

 

 

5. New trend for China- Africa cooperation-through, including industrialization, infrastructure, trade facilitation, green development, capacity building initiative, health care initiative, people to people initiative, peace and security initiative.

Afterwards some students asked pertinent questions and the professor answered them accordingly.

Max Sali, JSU PhD. student, addressed the audience on the establishment of the African students Network. He said that, it is only by working together and by developing the spirit of solidarity that our respective countries can progress and achieve significant economic growth.

To spice up the program, African designer wear model-walk show was exhibited.

As the event progressed successfully, the representatives of Tanzania, Zambia, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Uganda were given the opportunity to give a short speech about the cooperation between China and their countries in the light of China-Africa cooperation.

Ingrid Epezagne in her review of the Governance of China Book stressed the the importance of ensuring a win-win cooperation between Africa and China.Another comment on governance of China book 2 was given by Joseph Thige. He gave a brief history of the Africa and the western countries relationship, and encouraged the participants to take advantage of the China-Africa cooperation.

Nyaso Haisi Malilo, and Uzojenwa Benjamin shared their internship experience in China and gave guidance on how to access internship opportunities practical experiences in China.

Furthermore, Mahmud Abdul-Nazif and Otsile Morake from Ghana and Botswana shared their Beijing Summit experience. respectively They had the opportunity to speak with prominent personalities from their countries and are hopeful the China- Africa cooperation will be very beneficial to Africa.

Prince Junior also gave an interesting speech about turning desert lands in Africa into arable lands (Soilization) in line with the BRI. There presentations also added quality and color to the event.

At the end of the programme, certificates were distributed to those who participated and wrote letters entitled “Letter to the Presidents”and Ebenezer Laryno gave an appreciation talk on behalf of the recipients.

 

Dr. Ade gave the closing remarks and the program ended with group photographs including Chinese and OEC students.
