Investing in Tanzania

On April 19th, China-Tanzania Investment Forum was held in Guangzhou Oriental International Hotel. It was hosted by Tanzanian Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry and Chinese Chamber of Commerce, and co-organized by Tanzanian Embassy in China and Institute for African Studies, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies. Attending the forum were more than 150 people, including Mr. Mbelwa Kairuki, ambassador from Tanzanian Embassy in China, Mr. Francis Lukwaro, chairman representative from Tanzanian Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry, Mr. Raymond Peter Mbilinyi, former investment director, Mr. John, chairman of Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Prof. Liu Jisen, executive president of IAS, GDUFS, Chinese and Tanzanian entrepreneurs as well as businessmen, etc.

Mr. Francis Lukwaro, on behalf of Tanzanian Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry, delivered an opening speech. He made a detailed introduction of Tanzanian Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry, the biggest chamber in Tanzania which is headed by Ministry of Commerce of Tanzania. Since the chamber represents the interests of industry, agriculture and commerce, it is valued by Tanzanian government and has branches around the world, such as China, Turkey, Eastern Europe and the United States. The Chamber has eight major functions, namely, developing business opportunities, coordinating the relation between enterprises in Tanzania and the Tanzanian government, trading, holding business forums, helping young people start businesses, improving business efficiency, facilitating export trade and issuing certificates of origin. Mr. Francis Lukwaro highlighted the importance of the certificate of origin. The certificate of origin, authorized by Tanzanian Chamber of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry, is a must for enterprises which want to invest in Tanzanian factories and export products.

Mr. Mbelwa Kairuki, on behalf of the Tanzanian government, delivered a speech. He thought highly of Chinese businessmen’s investment in Tanzania. Besides, he declared a good new that the direct flight from Guangzhou to Tanzania would be opened this year.

Prof. Liu, representing the co-organizers, delivered a speech. He stated that China-Tanzania Investment Forum was one of the implementations of eight major initiatives, which was conductive to industrial promotion, trade facilitation, capacity improvement as well as cultural exchange. He shared his ideas on China-Africa cooperation. First, in-depth research in African region shall be carried out. Second, technological transfer from China to Africa shall be promoted. Third, people’s livelihood in Africa shall be improved. Fourth, employment problem of Africans shall be solved. Prof. Liu also promised to provide support for entrepreneurs to develop Tanzanian market.

Mr. Peter introduced the investment environment and policies in Tanzania and promised to provide overall support for Chinese investment in Tanzania. Miss Wang Fei made an introduction of the factory-to-home one-stop service platform.

Accompanying Prof. Liu were Miss Huo Jiangtao, dean assistant of IAS, GDUFS and secretary of African Guangdong Business Association, Mr. Hou Jianxiong, senior researcher of Shineng Group, Mr. He Jiakang, chairman of KVK Automobile Culture Club and Mr. Cheng Dao, CEO of SJMC Corporation.
